Proficiency Week 2016 Teacher Guide: Getting set up.
This guide walks you through how to use Education Perfect for Proficiency Week 2016.
There are four easy steps to follow to set the assessment.
3) Assessment Setup.
It will only take a few minutes to set up this assessment, but we've covered off every step in detail to help you feel really confident with the whole process. You can set up this assessment prior to the assessment day - see more about this under Step 4: When?
To get started, you'll need to go to www.educationperfect.com/login
Teacher login details usually follow this template:
Username: Your school email address
Password: First Name
You will be directed to the Control Panel.
Click the green 'Assessments' panel.
Select the 'New Assessment' button.
Select either + New Assessment or + Create Assessment.
Select Assessment type.
Select 'Assign Proficiency Week Test'.
Step 1: Who?
Select your class.
Here you can select your class, multiple classes or remove specific students. Click on the classes you'd like to include.
For reporting purposes, we recommend setting the proficiency test just for your class.
You can remove specific students from sitting the assessment.
To remove specific students, select 'Click here'.
Simply uncheck any students you don't want to be included. Repeat this for any classes which contain students who need to be removed.
In this example, Harry Prouse will not be doing the assessment.
Step 2: What?
Select 'Open Content Picker'.
Select the Year Level and Topic.
Select 'Proficiency Test'.
You can preview the assessment or just confirm selection.
Previewing the assessment.
Once you've previewed the assessment, just click 'Exit Preview' and then 'Confirm Selection'.
Give the task a name.
You can rename the assessment here, for example 'Proficiency Test - Grammar'.
Step 3: Assessment Setup.
- We have automatically checked the box 'Require students to enter an access code to start the test'.
By generating a unique code, your students can't start the assessment early, only when you're ready to share the code! Most schools will write the code on the whiteboard once all students are ready to sit the assessment.
- We have automatically checked the box 'Require students to do this exam only in full-screen mode'.
Full-screen mode means that students won't be able to access other tabs or have interference during the test. Please note that Safari does not support monitored assessment mode. Students on Macs will need to use either Chrome or Firefox to do the test in monitored mode.
- Decide when you want results to be released. You can control when your students receive their results - either as soon as possible, or when you chose to.
Step 4: When? Choosing the time period for the assessment.
All Proficiency Tests are 30 minutes long. The NAPLAN assessments range between 40 and 65 minutes. Each assessment has a countdown timer built into it. As soon as a student types in the code, the assessment countdown will start for them. The assessment will automatically close down after the time allocation after the student starts the assessment.
This step is just when you want the window for the assessment to take place. You have the flexibility to assign the assessment in advance - just choose the start date and time, and the end date and time. We strongly recommend you provide a very generous time window here - for example starting 10 minutes before the start of the period in which you're going to do the task, and ending 30 minutes after the period ends. This allows for students to access the internet, login, sort out any minor technical issues, then get going.
You don't need to do anything here.
Click 'Assign Task' and congratulations - you're done!
